My special photograph of an old stone crossing in the Amish countryside of Pennsylvania has become both a favorite image for me as well as my patrons. Originally, I came upon the crossing on a warm summer day. It was a day one stops and listens to the water and basks in the glow of summer. One feels the peace. On that day, I composed “A Crossing in the Stream” After my first exhibition of the print, it became apparent that a follow-up visit would be necessary to the crossing so that I might attempt a Winter scene. Six months later, I returned in the snow and luckily created
“A Crossing in the Stream, Winter”
It too created a wonderful feeling and complemented the original scene perfectly. Then, about a year later, I attempted to visit the crossing in the Autumn. It turns out that the crossing is surrounded by trees that made my Autumn scene a bit more challenging. With a feeling of excitement, I arrived back in Pennsylvania for a troika visit and to my surprise, the trees and light bequeathed a third image that stands with the other two.
“A Crossing in the Stream, Autumn”
is the newest image of the group and captures the meandering water in a crisp photographic contrast that hopefully brings the feeling of Autumn to the viewers. The image emits a sense of crisper, cooler day with a vivid approach to the colors I was viewing. Even in the fall, the grass on the bridge maintains a bit of green; a perfect complement to the now bright colors of Autumn. The trip to the crossing was complete that day and I came away content that I found the season so complimentary for me. Now someone will probably ask for an image in the Spring! I’ve put that thought aside for awhile… though you may want to wander in the area of the bridge sometime in April in the future, for you may find a man with soaked pair of shoes plodding around the stream with a damp camera and a huge smile.
